Twas recently pointed out to me that HSFC (Have Some Fucking Class) is quite a handy potential internet acronym. I can think of a number of places where it would be even more expressive than STFU. Or, naturally, the heinous TL;DR, which says more about the commenter than the post. I went out with Spider. I am full of sushi. I wanted to be asleep hours ago, but I made myself stay up to take my meds at what I want to be my regular meds-taking hour. Now I zonk.

don't hit me for my ignorance but...Whats TL;DR? I thought I've been around the net long enough to know most acronyms, but...apparently not. And HSFC works! :D Mon, May. 1st, 2006 05:46 am (UTC)

Too long; didn't read, heh. For when someone makes a really, really long (and usually inane) post. ;) Mon, May. 1st, 2006 05:59 am (UTC)

But-but-but...Why?? Why even bother commenting with that if you didn't read the post? How annoying! *urge to kill...rising...* Mon, May. 1st, 2006 06:40 am (UTC)

TLDR is my perosonal huge pet peeve in netspeak. Like you said, why even bother writing it? Also, why announce to the world that you lacked the ability to read things longer than a paragraph since, as Jesse pointed out, it says more about you than the person you are replying to? In some places, however, it is acceptable. Back when I was a regular poster in RSPW it was a snarky joke reply, used almost exclusivly in response to long, well thought out tristies by people you liked who's opinions you respected. Then again, RSPW is (maybe was) a land where jokes didn't die when they stopped being funny but instead became zombies, eternally prowling the world seeking to fufill their initial purpose. Hell, when I stopped posting there "x was my favorite wrestler" and "Vader Fucked..." could still make me laugh like a schoolgirl. To be honest, the concept of Vader being a huge pimp who banged every woman who ever lived, and who's sexual prowess was the cause of every celebrity death still makes me laugh. As does the concept that Yokozuna died after a long battle with bacon. I really need to stop making all my longest posts as comments in Jesse's LJ. I'm sure it's rude. Don't ask me, dude. If I don't read it, I don't comment. Simple as that. Mon, May. 1st, 2006 06:45 am (UTC)

The best piece of netspeak ever is I Am Not a Lawyer, when talking about legalities, because it is #1 very old and accepted, and #2 said as "IANAL." Unrealted, I re-read all of Metanoia today before work. I suggest it to all fans. Reading the 3 or so new pages a week can make one not see how well everything fits together. It does a body good to view the whole thing in one go now and then. For one thing, it helped me see Star and Zander as whole people and not just bursts of actoins. It also reminded me (as if I needed it) about how much I freaking LOVE Metanoia. You pwn. Mon, May. 1st, 2006 11:01 am (UTC)

Seebs's favorite, as far as I can tell, is YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary), but this is because he likes to give advice. Thanks! <3 Mon, May. 1st, 2006 08:21 am (UTC)

I agree about tl;dr. The only time I've ever used it is in reference to fic where the writer just doesn't seem to understand that something (whether it be exposition, urple, wangst, or whatever) has gone on far too long for the readers to even care anymore, or on reaaaaalllly long insane-type posts. Add me back? This is my new LJ to replace the old one. Mon, May. 1st, 2006 11:01 am (UTC)

Ah, it is you! I think I asked you for a hint a while back and then got distracted and forgot to check. I suck. ;p Anyway, gotcher! Mon, May. 1st, 2006 09:41 am (UTC)

TLDR?.... ^^'... so.. not up to date with slang... never have been... I think I was born a recluse... And Sushi... oh yum. Perhaps it sounds odd, but I'm hoping sushi in Japan is as enjoyable to me as sushi in the states has been. (it's kind of like the notion that there's a difference between Chinese chinese food, and American chinese food... particularly where I like the latter better. Or Jordanian chinese food.. which, from what I remember, was excellent.) Mon, May. 1st, 2006 11:03 am (UTC)

According to Seebs, Chinese food in China was kinda low-quality, particularly in the area of meat; stringy, fatty chunks, sometimes with bits of bone in, which were chopped on the sidewalk. Mon, May. 1st, 2006 02:12 pm (UTC)

Kinda figgers. When we have phillipinos and nepalese in the kitchen, the asiatic type food was pretty bad. Granted, everything at the time was entirely too salty, fatty, tough, spicey and generally just undesireable. The new group is pretty good, a catering company from Kuwait. It's been muuuuuch better. Particularly the spaghetti. No, I'm not (really) trying to yank on an old joke. it's one of the few things I make SURE to have anymore. ... I DO miss their mac and cheese, though... ^^' gosh, o sorry... rather babbly this evening... Wed, May. 3rd, 2006 03:48 pm (UTC) (Anonymous)
Seebs is a brave man then, to eat the food from the sidewalk! Native here, and I don't even dare! Although, the lamb kebab stick things are always worth it. They smell so good. Also, I love all your work! =D Wed, May. 3rd, 2006 03:49 pm (UTC) (Anonymous)

I can understand the use of "HSFC" and "STFU"...but when people use TL;DR, I just want to smack them. No wait... HSFC and STFU should be thrown their way, then they should be smacked. I think it's quite possibly the rudest thing I've ever seen. And yes, I agree, it says alot more about the commenter. Mon, May. 1st, 2006 07:19 pm (UTC)

HSFC is actually pretty damn catchy now that I say it aloud. oO; Woo. Tue, May. 2nd, 2006 10:03 am (UTC)

Where I used to work we would often have to refer to people without mentioning their names (for confidentiality) so we would use acronyms instead. The best one was reserved for complete idiots: 'TSTL' (Too Stupid To Live)! Thu, Jan. 11th, 2007 12:38 am (UTC) (Anonymous): All right ifI leave?
