So you know how Luka was sick? Unless food poisoning's contagious, it wasn't the yogurt. :(

But I was writey anyway. In addition to working on my other thing that I'm not talking about, I thrashed out a chapter of Summerlands. As usual, I will have no idea whether this is gold or garbage until it's too late to take it back.

Summerlands part... where are we now? Oh yeah. 17. )

Summerlands again, now with more SICK.

This is a long one; I tried to stop and go to bed somewhere in the middle, but I couldn't sleep with this rattling around in my head. I haven't gone back over it, so it's probably full of typos and dumb errors, but if I don't post it I feel like it'll still be somehow open-for-thinking-about, if that makes any sense.

You knew Nasty Stuff was coming. Nevertheless, I feel I must place a WARNING. Non-con unpleasantness, graphic smut, and a visit to the inside of a Bad Person's brain. If you're not in the mood to deal with that, leave the lj-cut alone.

I briefly have very dodgy net access. Lake Superior says hi!

I ATEN'T DEAD

I haven't given up on Summerlands. I just needed some ideas. With this segment, I've made a decision that guarantees it'll be one of those sprawling, neverending fantasy/romance epics, rather than the tightly-plotted, balanced story my internal critic tells me I must write. My internal critic can fuck himself. I've never actually done one of these. As soon as my careful plot-weaving starts getting tangled, I always back up and cut out the knot, or even set the work aside until I can restart it with a better idea what I'm doing. But not this one. No, Summerlands is going to end up looking like three strings of Christmas tree lights and five extension cords that've been through a tornado together, and I don't even mind. Let there be zillions of characters! Let there be dozens of subplots! Let there be smut and angst as well! -- because what's the point of sloppy writing if you can't throw in random sluttings?

No smut in this part. But I've stolen Karil from Rah (though I renamed him) and she knows Deimos rather better than she wants to, and there's no way there won't be all kinds of twisted kink if those two are around. :D

Metanoia short story

X-posted to [info]riverside_hq, which I reckon is the main audience for this, but maybe there's folks who don't read that comm but might still want to see this.

This story jumped into my brain, and I couldn't stop typing until it was all out on the page. Now that I look at it, I reckon it must've been scraping big gouges on the inside of my head. It's not a nice story. Not at all. But it might be a good story. I won't really know until I come back and look at it again in a few weeks.

It's sordid and violent, a long look at why Star hates himself so much. If that doesn't sound like something you feel like dealing with, I advise you to leave this link alone.

Summerlands part 8

Depressed because of wank. Also because of stomach bug. Thought it was just the nausea I get from anxiety, until I made the mistake of having spicy mock duck and tofu for dinner. Oops. I feel sorta drunk, and not in a good way. The Vietnamese coffee was just what my soul needed, though, even if it wasn't good for my digestion. And the convo was awesome. Cheers to Luka for taking me out to the Village. It was happymaking.

Working on my throwaway project is also happymaking. I'm regretting letting so many names start with J, but I'm gonna let it slide for now. On a similar note, way back when Ynyr and James were in the car and Ynyr was thinking about snow, it should've been his mother, not his sister, who liked to make it snow. I hadn't worked out his backstory then. Retcon is allowed in this exercise, so I'm not gonna angst about it.
